About The Author

The mental health of our children has become a talking point for many parents, carers, and teachers across the globe. Children’s mental health has declined significantly over the years where:

  • One in six school-aged children has a mental health problem

(NHS Digital, 2020)

  • 50% of all mental health problems start before the age of 14
  • (Children Society, 2022)

    • There is an average 10-year delay between children experiencing their first mental illness symptom and seeking help

    (Centre for Mental Health, 2021)

I knew I wanted to tackle these stats and in 2016 I began my journey to gain as much knowledge to do so. I went to university and three years later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Education. I then went on to do a master’s in Child Development at UCL. During my course, I deepened my knowledge of the main theories, methods, and findings of psychological research relating to child development, positive psychology, and developmental psychology. I knew I wanted to use what I had learned to help as many children as possible. I asked myself how… and the answer was The Jolly Jotters Journal. I wanted to give children a journal that they can use every day that would introduce and instil long-lasting habits to promote positive mental health. A year and a half later of writing, designing, and testing the journal it is finally ready for your little ones to jot their way to better mental health.
